Making a career at a federal research institute: the Robert Koch-Institute (RKI) is an institute within the portfolio of the German Ministry of Health focussing on public health issues. It is the central federal institution for disease control and prevention and serves as a reference institution for applied and response-orientated research. For a broad spectrum of infectious agents (viruses, bacteria, biological toxins), our work focusses on i) development of innovative detection methods ii) basic research (mechanisms of pathogenicity, immunological defence mechanisms, prevalence and genetics; therapeutic options) and iii) epidemiological research.
